The Epson 3LCD Technology Advantage
- All 3LCD projectors have both high Color Brightness and high White Brightness
- All 3LCD projectors have 3 chips
- 25% lower power consumption3 for lower energy costs
- 25 years of road-tested reliability
These images are from similarly priced projectors with comparable White Brightness. The Epson 3LCD projector (top) has high Color Brightness, while the 1-chip DLP projector (bottom) has low Color Brightness.
Unlike 1-chip DLP projectors, all Epson projectors use 3 individual LCD chips to generate red, green, and blue light that is projected simultaneously. This
technology eliminates the conditions that can create the Rainbow Effect, thus making 3-chip LCD projectors immune to that phenomenon.

Bright & Colorful
While White Brightness may be the traditional specification associated with lumens, a new Color Brightness specification is an authoritative standard recently developed by the International
Committee for Display Metrology (ICDM). This widely accepted standard measures the projected
brightness of red, green, and blue light. If Color Brightness is low, colors can look dull or dark, skin
tones are reproduced poorly and important details can be lost.
Epson projectors use 3LCD technology with 3 chips to deliver vibrant, true-to-life and consistent images. Unlike 1-chip DLP projectors that use a color wheel, Epson projectors do not force a tradeoff between White and Color Brightness. Many manufacturers provide only one specification which states the White Brightness (White Light Output). If Color Brightness (Color Light Output) is not listed, the actual number may be as low as 1/3 of the provided spec. Epson lists both specifications.
† Color Brightness (color light output) and White Brightness (white light output) will vary depending on usage conditions. Color light output measured in accordance with IDMS 15.4; white light output measured in accordance with ISO 21118.
1 4K Enhancement Technology shifts each pixel diagonally by 0.5 pixels to double the resolution and surpass Full HD image quality. Resolution is 1920 x 1080 in 3D Mode.

3 Data source: ProjectorCentral.com, Feb. 2015. Average of 1,420 shipping models for which the manufacturers provided lumens and total power data, all resolutions and brightness levels. Energy efficiency was measured as wattage per lumen. It was measured for both 3LCD and 1-chip projectors in each of six brightness segments. 3LCD projectors averaged less required electricity per lumen in each of the six segments.
