Epson Expression perfection
Out of the box, plug it in, install the software and use - total time 10 minutes. The toolbox is the same as my origianl Perfection model so there is no "learning curve" required. Thanks! As an artist I have no time or inclination to learn a totally new platform so I truly appreciate the simplicity and similarities to my old one. beautiful colour, precision scan quality I highly recommend this machine for anyone who regularily needs large format scanning. Lovely machine, great service, I look foraward to many yearsof untroubled use in the true Epson tradition!

Some features Epson could better clarify
I ordered this professional scanner for a specific need, which it will fill well, but due to pressure of work cannot at this time explore all its other features.
The need I had includes being able to remove the lid, or cover, and lay large matted works (which cannot be unmatted) over the capture area. The machine is designed to do this, and I was able to verify this by talking to phone support.
However, Epson in its product description does not make this clear or easy to find. I found verification once deep in a long PDF manual and once by talking to phone support. When I read lots of reviews on Amazon I could not tell for sure whether the product had this capability. It's such a simple thing to describe. It should be part of the regular advertising. Lots of people like to scan outsize pictures.
When I received the machine it turned out that this was all there. The bed itself is large. The lid lifts up well, and also can be lifted off and replaced easily.
Furthermore, the scan bed itself is very SHALLOW, unlike the office scanners which have a ledge almost one-half inch deep. This is important in case you want to scan something very large and "piece" the parts together. When the scan bed is deeply recessed, there is a shadow at the edges. It needs to shallow, like this Epson.
Final comment, I can see there is a lot of software capability for color scanning here that I can't yet explore, but a just plain color scan brought out much truer colors than my office scanner, when doing an image where exact color mattered. Much better!

Epson Expression 10000XL GOOD SCANNER
Like this scanner. It really does have a good dynamic range. Easy to set up and use. I use it for photo and art scans. My needs are a must for the 12x18 scan bed. It does seem that this scanner has not been updated in many years. Maybe soon?

Epson Strikes Again
I have never had an issue with any product manufactured by Epson and that holds true once again. This scanner is a breeze to setup and use. The resolution is superior to my old SCSI interface large format scanner and at less than half the price! Whatever Epson is doing, they are doing it RIGHT.....Keep up the good work.

fantastic scanner
Just love it. I no longer have to photograph preliminary sketches and small works but can instead scan the originals. All the features of this scanner are easy to use and live up to my high expectations.

So Good, So Far
Using grant money, I purchasesd an Epson 10000XL. We have begun using it to scan Advanced Placement portfolio artwork for submission to AP. The installation was easy and fast. And the images we have gotten so far have been clean, clear and outstanding. Thanks!

great product
Simply the best as I used this scanner at work for 5 years for scanning large pieces of art and on that history bought one for personal home business use. Thank you EPSON for making a quality LARGE format scanner.

Additional features than listed!
The feature I loved on our old SCSI Epson scanner was the manual focus feature, on our old Mac running Photoshop. So after installing the new Expression 10000XL scanner and the Photoshop software plug-in, I was elated to find the manual focusing feature was included in this new version too. The Epson site does not list this feature. This is a very necessary feature as I sometimes scan objects and need to set the focus point.
One feature I do miss in the PS import plug-in is the "Scan All" button. This was helpful when adding several picts to the scan bed.
It's ease of use, removable hinged scanner cover, de-screening, and scaling make this a great scanner for my department's use in producing video and web programs.
I was also very pleased that Epson had a quality replacement scanner with the same features we depend on, as well as new useful features.
