Scanner and software
While the scans look great, I have had the software locking up every now and then.

Love this scanner
This scanner is a workhorse. It is quiet, reliable, scans beautifully, love the negative scanner. Cannot think of a bad thing to say about it.

brand new 10000xl right out of the box. turned unit on and got flashing red and green lights. 2hrs on the phone with epson, unit not repairable. epson will send a new unit at no cost but will take 2-7 days.(make sure you have plenty of money on your credit/debit card as they will only send out a new unit if you put it on a card that can cover the cost) at this point i could not recommend buying epson products. i am down 2-7 work days. we will see what happens when the new unit arrives.

Our Work-horses
We have purchased three of these in the past few months. The detail and accuracy are amazing! I have not had good experiences with flatbed scanning for film, but these scanners are incredible. If film is damaged or curved, you can adjust the focus- that is a great feature. My only complaint is that it is difficult to get additional negative carriers/holders. If you want to do any sort of mass-production, I would suggest you order more.
The software is easy to use; it has a very gentle learning curve.
I was also pleased that it comes with color targets for calibration. An excellent product that gives incredible scans!

epson 100000 xl
Just started using it had problems with the software had to uninstall my other scanner...now it is working and seems to look pretty good although there isnt a negative carrier for an 8x10 sure it isnt that common anyway....but the scanner is by my computer and the constant buzzing it is making is going to drive me crazy it might make me want to return it and use my old 1640 scanner...very loud!!

Love Epson Scanners
I finally had to break down and replace my Epson Expression 800 scanner that I purchased in 1999 - not because it broke, but due to all the different type of connections the newer computers use. The old SCSI just wasn't the way to go any longer. The only way to go was back with Epson since the Expression 800 had given me great results. I chose the Expression 1000XL Photo and it was without reservation the greatest decision. The Expresiion 1000XL Photo scans negatives and positives without any adjustments. So need I say that scanning photos and documents are right on results to the originals. The accompanying software makes it a breeze to use. And the added PDF feature is a triple +. It runs quiet and scans quickly even at high settings. Must admit I was sad to disconnect the Expression 800 but you know, the Expression 1000XL Photo has more than adequately taken it's place and more. This is one scanner and the only scanner that I would recommend without reservation - there are no negatives about this .

scanning watercolors
I bought this to scan watercolor art 15.7x11.5, so I would not have to scan two halves then Photoshop merge them.
It is better than my older scanner (and I managed to hook up this scanner by firewire cable) and I love being able to scan the whole piece of artwork.
Thanks for making a scanner this wide.

Fabulous Scanner
This scanner is going to really help my productivity - I do a lot of digital photo restoration work, and now with this larger scanning bed, I can lay out many more photos at one time. It also handles the oversized old photos that are often attached to paperboard mats, and I can lay large photo albums open on the bed without removing the pages.
The scans are fantastic, and having the Silverfast scanning software bundled with the scanner was a real plus.

Museum Quality
When given the oportunity to purchase a photo scanner for our museum, I had many specifications to meet.
We needed to scan very large photos, able to scan various negatives and slides, needed enlargement capabilities with color restoration as many photos have faded......
The Epson Expression 10000XL met all the needs and we have found this scanner to be exceptional. So when given the opportunity to purchase another scanner there was no research to be done. We now have tow Expression 10000XL scanners at our museum.
A recent visit to the Philadelphia Archive webside allowed me to see photos of the equipment they have onsite...Expression 10000XL.
When called upon by associates and friends to recommend a scanner for various projects, the answer is always Expression 10000XL.
Epson is a name to be trusted. No I am not employed or have any association with Epson...just LOVE their scanners!
