Epson Expression Photo XP-850 Small-in-One® All-in-One Printer
SCRAPBOOKERS STAY AWAY!!!!!!
I hate this printer!! I am a scrapbooker and I have not been able to work on my scrapbooks because I have to print pics many times to get a decent print. I have wasted a lot of time and paper. Pics have lines, missing colors, etc. I have spent a small fortune on ink - which you have to order online since no store carries it - and it has put a damper on my love of scrapbooking. Pay attention to what people say about it. I didn't have the luxury of many reviews to read.

the XP-850 is GREAT, but...
I really love my Epson printer! I love the quality of the photo's it prints. I love color quality that comes out on all my printing. The quality of the greeting card I designed for a friend's birthday was better than any store bought card. I love the quality of all of my general printing. I like that I can print on CD's and the Print CD software is easy to use. I like that the scanner and copier produce good quality and are easy to use.
However, in the 3 months I have owned my XP-850, I have primarily used it for general printing, but when I print photos on it, the print heads get clogged and when I run the maintenance tools to clear the clogs, about half of a cartridge of ink gets consumed. That means I run out of ink very quickly when I print photos (and yes, I understand - it's obvious - that photos consume more ink too!). That gets expensive and so far I have not found a local store that sells the XL ink. I only know of one local store that even sells the 277 ink.
Due to finances and space in my home, I cannot keep a back stock of ink and if I need to run the utilities, I will need to replace the ink cartridges within 2 days.
Overall, I really love my Epson printer and I am really enjoying it. I accept that there are very few things in this world that are perfect, so the bottom line is the XP-850 is really good. It meets my very high color and quality standards, but having to replace all of my ink cartridges twice in 2 months seems like too much when I consider that I really do not print such a high quantity and I am finding that the "every day" print quality or even "draft" are fine for the majority of my printing needs.

I don't know why, but it will not connect to my mac. I cannot scan and save, or anything. I keep updating and nothing. What's wrong?

Great with one difficulty I am having. How do I get the printer to print a partial part of a selected page or multiple copies of an EXCEL file. When ever I select print it prints the entire file and does not give me an opportuntiy to select the number of copies I need or a part of a page.

Used mainly as a photo printer
I have used this printer extensively for about 3 weeks now. I print mostly only pictures on this printer. It is good but the photo tray does not hold very many sheets for someone who prints a lot of photos. Also, sometimes it takes it longer to pick up the next photo paper than to actually print the photo. A plus is that I am printing in default settings and getting beautiful pictures. It is noisy when taking a long time to pick up the next photo paper. It makes all kinds of weird noises, so mechanical that I wonder how long these plastic parts will last. The trays are made with cheap plastic.

Setup was quick and simple. Very good quality print on Discs. Was pleased and surprised to find my kids could print from their cameras to my printer wherever they're at. Plan to use this function for my Grandson's 3rd Birthday party. Kids can take their pics home with them!
Have always had Epson printers and this one did not disapoint.

EPSON XP-850 Collor Inkjet Printer
Easy to set up, and easy to use. This is my second Epson printer and I am very happy with both. The first one lasted 6 years and I look forward to the same with this one.

I should have listened.
I've used Epson printers for my small business for 15 years. My last printer, the Artisan 725, lasted 5 years with high volume usage. I was sad when it died, but I knew it was time to replace it. It exceeded my expectations. I need a six-ink printer so I read reviews for all of the ones Epson sells. The reviews were mixed, but a lot of people were complaining about the XP-850 printing with lines or not recognizing cartridges, etc. Guess what? They were right! I've had this printer for two weeks and it's already printing with lines. The pics look horrible. I've gone through the maintenance cleaning, etc, so many times (wasting ink). Replacing ink was a pain too because the printer takes forever to recognize it. On top of that, you can't even find the ink in stores! I went to 7 different stores and it was nowhere to be found. You can only buy it online. That doesn't work for me. I can't believe what has happened to Epson. I expected more. I've returned my printer and purchased another brand at half the cost. It prints beautifully. Bye bye Epson. :(

Bought this one to replace my artisan 835 (my 3rd artisan in 4 years, but i love them) and can't get it to print any black. Have wasted 3 photo sheets and many sheets of reg paper but it just won't come out. Test sheet had line through the font. Each time I put more then one piece of paper in it jams and it won't feed photo paper through lower slot, i have to feed through the back. A disaster! I am taking this back first thing in the morning. :( Bring back the all in one Artisan series Epson!
