REV. 7.0 DISCLAIMERThese instructions only apply to Peer-to-Peer Networks consisting of Windows 95, 98 or NT 4.0 and are intended as a general guide to share your Epson Stylus printer across your network. Epson does not support network installations and we suggest you contact your network administrator or software vendor for more complete installation and configuration instructions of your actual network. Please, read the entire document prior to making any changes to your network setup. Also, these instructions are based on the assumption that your network is setup and configured properly.

ENSURE THAT THERE IS A TRUE PEER-TO-PEER NETWORK BY:
1.Double-click the 'Network Neighborhood' icon.
2.Double click on the 'Entire Network'.
3.This should list all the computers on the network.
4.If you get the 'Unable to browse network' error, please check your network setup. Otherwise, go to next step.

IF THE HOST WORKSTATION IS RUNNING WINDOWS 98 / 95:

If your printer is either an Epson Stylus Color 850, Color 740, Color 640, Color 440, Stylus Photo 700 or Stylus Photo EX, skip steps 2-8.

1.Install the driver through the SETUP.EXE file on the bundled floppies or CD-ROM. If you wish to obtain the latest version of the driver, you can check our web site at http://www.epson.com/support/ftp.shtml and download the appropriate driver file. To install a downloaded file, simply double-click on it to start the installation process.

2.On the local drive of this terminal, create a directory by the name of EPSPOOL, so you have C:\EPSPOOL.

3.Click on 'Start' 'Programs' 'Epson' 'Spool Manager'.

4.In the Epson Spool Manager, click on 'Options' 'Default Spool Directory' and change the directory to C:\EPSPOOL. Click on 'Okay'.

5.In the Epson Spool Manager, click on 'Queue' 'Setup'.

6.Select 'Spool to local printer'.

7.Ensure that the 'Spool Directory' is set to C:\EPSPOOL.

8.Close the 'Epson Spool Manager'.

9.Click on 'Start' 'Settings' 'Control Panel'.

10.Double-click on the 'Network' icon.

11.Click on the 'Configuration' tab and then click on 'File and Print Sharing'.

12.Enable 'I want to be able to give access to files' and 'I want to allow others to print to my printer(s)'. Click on 'Okay'.

13.Close all open windows and restart the computer if you are prompted to do so.

14.Click on 'Start' 'Settings' 'Printers'.

15.Highlight the icon for your printer, and then click on 'File' 'Sharing'.

16.Select 'Shared As' and give the printer a unique name in the 'Share Name' field. Limit the name to eight characters or less and avoid using long file names or spaces.

17.Click on the 'Details' tab.

18.Click the 'Port Settings' button and disable both selections. Click on 'Okay'.

19.Close the 'Properties' window by first clicking on 'Apply' and then 'Okay'.

20.There should now be a hand holding the icon of the printer.

21.Close the 'Printers' window.

22.Print a test page to ensure that the host machine is working properly.

IF THE HOST WORKSTATION IS RUNNING WINDOWS NT 4.0:

1.Install the driver through the SETUP.EXE file on the bundled floppies or CD-ROM. If you wish to obtain the latest version of the driver, you can check the File Library section for your product. To install a downloaded file, simply double-click on it to start the installation process.

2.Click on 'Start' 'Settings' 'Printers'.

3.Highlight the icon for your printer, and then click on 'File' 'Sharing'.

4.Select 'Shared As' and give the printer a unique name in the 'Share Name' field. Limit the name to eight characters or less and avoid using long file names or spaces.

5.Click on 'Okay' to close the 'Properties' window.

6.There should now be a hand holding the icon of the printer.

7.Close the 'Printers' window.

8.Print a test page to ensure that the host machine is working properly.

IF THE REMOTE WORKSTATION IS RUNNING WINDOWS 98 / 95:

If your printer is either an Epson Stylus Color 850, Color 740, Color 640, Color 440, Stylus Photo 700 or Stylus Photo EX, skip steps 11-18.

1.Install the driver through the SETUP.EXE file on the bundled floppies or CD-ROM. If you wish to obtain the latest version of the driver, you can check the File Library section for your product. To install a downloaded file, simply double-click on it to start the installation process.

2.Double-click on the 'Network neighborhood' icon and then locate and double-click the computer that has the printer connected to it.

3.You should now see the printer name that you had assigned in step #16.

4.Right-click on the icon of the printer and left-click on 'Capture Printer Port'. Select a non-existent port such as 'LPT5' and also place a check mark on 'Reconnect at Logon'. Click on 'Okay'.

5.Close all open windows.

6.Click on 'Start' 'Settings' 'Printers'.

7.Right-click on the icon of the printer and left-click on 'Properties'.

8.Click on the 'Details' tab.

9.Under 'Print to the following port', select the port that you had captured in step #4, in this case LPT5. Click on 'Apply' and then 'Okay'.

10.Close all open windows.

11.On the local drive of this terminal, create a directory by the name of EPSPOOL, so you have C:\EPSPOOL.

12.Click on 'Start' 'Programs' 'Epson' 'Spool Manager'.

13.In the Epson Spool Manager, click on 'Options' 'Default Spool Directory' and change the directory to C:\EPSPOOL. Click on 'Okay'.

14.In the Epson Spool Manager, click on 'Queue' 'Setup'.

15.Select 'Spool to local printer'.

16.Ensure that the 'Spool Directory' is set to C:\EPSPOOL.

17.Enable 'Use Print Manager for this port' and click on 'Okay'.

18.Close the 'Epson Spool Manager'.

19.Print a test page.

IF THE REMOTE WORKSTATION IS RUNNING WINDOWS NT 4.0:

1.Install the driver through the SETUP.EXE file on the bundled floppies or CD-ROM. If you wish to obtain the latest version of the driver, you can check our web site at http://www.epson.com/support/ftp.shtml and download the appropriate driver file. To install a downloaded file, simply double-click on it to start the installation process.

2.Click on 'Start' 'Settings' 'Printers'.

3.Right-click on the icon of the printer and left-click on 'Properties'.

4.Click on the 'Ports' tab.

5.Click on 'Add Port'.

6.Select 'Local Port' and click on 'New Port'.

7.In the 'Enter a Port Name:' field, type the UNC path that leads to the printer and click on 'Okay'. For example, this path could read \\WINDOWS98\EPSON800. The UNC path of your network will depend on the share name of the printer and the workstation that it is connected to.

8.Click on 'Okay' to close the 'Properties' window.

9.Close the 'Printers' window.

10.Print a test page.
