Epson is fully committed to supporting Mac OS X Snow Leopard v10.6. Commonly asked questions about using Snow Leopard with your Epson product are listed below.



Q: My computer freezes when I try to install the Epson software CD for my product in Mac OS X Snow Leopard v10.6. What should I do to install the software?

A: You’ll need to install Rosetta in Snow Leopard by doing one of the following:

  • Follow these instructions if your Macintosh is connected to the internet:


    1. Click OK or Install when you see a window that prompts you to install Rosetta. Rosetta is installed automatically.


    2. If you see the Epson menu, open the Epson pop-up menu and select Quit.




    3. Install the Epson drivers from the Epson software CD or download the software from the Drivers & Downloads page for your product.



  • Follow these instructions if your Macintosh is not connected to the internet:


    1. If you see the Epson menu, open the Epson pop-up menu and select Quit.




    2. Insert the Apple OS X 10.6 DVD into your Macintosh.


    3. Open the Optional Installs folder.




    4. Double-click Optional Installs.mpkg.




    5. Check only the Rosetta box and click Continue.




    6. Click Close when you see the screen below.

Q: I can print to my all-in-one but I can’t scan. What should I do to use my scanner?

A: Download the Macintosh OS X (v10.6 - 10.6.x) compatible driver from the Drivers & Downloads page for your all-in-one.

Q: My product is not listed on the Epson Macintosh Snow Leopard Support page. How can I use my printer with Snow Leopard?

A: You can use a Gutenprint driver if it’s available for your printer; Snow Leopard will automatically install the Gutenprint driver when you connect your printer.

If you don’t want to use the Gutenprint driver, however, an Epson Mac OS X 10.4.x driver and Common Updater software are available on the Drivers & Downloads page for your printer, you can download and install them. Follow these steps:

  1. Turn off the printer.


  2. From the Apple menu, select System Preferences.


  3. Click Print & Fax.


  4. If necessary, click once on your printer’s name in the Printer list. (You don’t need to do this if only one printer driver is installed).


  5. Click the button to remove the printer from the Printer list, then click OK.


  6. Download and install the Mac OS X 10.4.x drivers and the Common Updater software for your product from the Drivers & Downloads page for your product.

    Note: Install the Mac OS X 10.4.x drivers before the Common Updater software.


  7. Turn on the printer. Your Mac will add the printer automatically.

    If you’re printer does not automatically appear in the printer list, click the button, select your printer from the window that appears, then click Add.

Q: I don’t see my printer driver on the Epson Macintosh Snow Leopard Support page. Where can I find a Mac OS 10.6.x driver for my product?

A: Try the following:

  1. Rosetta needs to be installed in Snow Leopard. If necessary, install Rosetta.


  2. Go to Drivers & Support, select your product category, then select your product name.


  3. Select Drivers & Downloads, then select Macintosh Operating Systems from the drop-down list and click Go.


  4. Download the Macintosh 10.5.x drivers for your product.

    Note: If there are no Macintosh OS X 10.5.x drivers available for your product, download and install the Macintosh OS X 10.4.x drivers and the Common Updater software for your product.


  5. Follow the on screen instructions to finish the driver installation.

Q: The USB print queue for my Epson printer disappeared when I upgraded from Mac OS X 10.5.x to Mac OS X 10.6.x on my Intel-based Mac. How do I get it back?

A: It can be re-created if you re-connect the USB printer cable to your Mac. Try the following:
  1. Turn on the printer.


  2. Disconnect and reconnect the printer’s USB cable to your Mac.


  3. Open System Preferences.


  4. Open Print & Fax.

Q: When I select Colorsync or ICC profiles in Epson Scan, the application unexpectedly quits. What should I do?

A: The Epson Scan utility may be not 100% compatible with Mac OS X 10.6.x color profiling. Epson is working on a solution for the problem. Please return periodically to this Epson Macintosh Snow Leopard Support page to check for software updates.

Q: My printer driver installed in Mac OS X 10.6.x. when I connected the printer’s USB cable. However, some of the options I had in Mac OS X 10.5.x are missing. How can I get them back?

Q: The message Rosetta must be installed appears when I try to install my Epson driver(s) in Mac OS X 10.6.x. What should I do?

Q: Will my scanner still work if I upgrade my Mac operating system from OS X 10.5.x (Leopard) to OS X 10.6.x (Snow Leopard)?

A: Yes. If you see a dialog box prompting you to install Rosetta when you launch Epson Scan, click OK to automatically download and install Rosetta on your Mac.

Q: I purchased a Mac with Snow Leopard pre-installed. Which driver should I install for my Epson scanner?

A: Please check the Macintosh Snow Leopard Support page to see if a Snow Leopard driver is available for your scanner.

If a driver is not available, then use the Leopard driver for your scanner; this driver will work in Snow Leopard. Please return periodically to the Epson Macintosh Snow Leopard Support page to check for an updated driver.

Q: In Snow Leopard, I have ICC profiles enabled in Epson Scan. When I try to save a scanned image in Adobe Photoshop, I see the message “Could not read the ICC profile. Saving image canceled.”. How can I use the ICC profile?

A: This message occurs with all Epson Scan Leopard drivers because Epson Scan attempts to apply an ICC profile to a scanned JPG or TIFF image.



To correct the problem, install the Epson Scan Snow Leopard driver. Please check the Macintosh Snow Leopard Support page to see if a Snow Leopard driver is available for your scanner. If it is, download and install the driver. If the driver is not available, please return periodically to the Epson Macintosh Snow Leopard Support page to check for an updated driver.

To avoid seeing the error, do not use the ColorSync option. Enable Color Control or No Color Correction instead.



If you decide to leave ColorSync enabled, uncheck Embed ICC Profile in the Plug-in Settings window.

Q: I upgraded to Mac OS X 10.6.x and reinstalled the Epson software for my networked printer. I can’t install the EPSON TCP/IP driver, but I can install the Bonjour driver. Will the Bonjour driver function the same as EPSON TCP/IP driver?

Q: I upgraded to Mac OS X 10.6.x, and now I can’t print with my Epson networked printer. The icon for the print queue has changed; there’s a yellow warning mark over the printer. Can I get my printer to print over the network?

Q: Is my Epson network printer compatible with Mac OS X 10.6.x?

A: Yes. You can set up your Epson network printer with the Bonjour driver. Follow these steps:
  1. Make sure your network printer is connected to your network.


  2. Select System Preferences, then Print & Fax.


  3. Select the Bonjour driver for your product.

Q: How do I Add my Epson network printer using Bonjour in the Print & Fax window?

A: Do the following:
  1. Open System Preferences, then select Print & Fax


  2. Click the +
  3. button. You see an Add Printer window listing the printers found on the network. You printer’s name will appear as EPSONxxxxxx.

  4. Select your printer and click the Add button in the bottom right corner of the Add Printer window.
