Q:
After I swap a black ink cartridge, the Mac OS X driver needs to be installed again. Is there anything I can do to prevent this?
A:
Yes. Create a print queue for each cartridge. Follow these steps:
  1. Open the Printer Setup Utility.


  2. To create the Photo Black queue, click the  Info button and change the printer name to Stylus Photo 2200 Photo Black.





  3. Click Apply Changes. In the Printer Setup Utility, the name of the Stylus Photo 2200 should now be Stylus Photo 2200 Photo Black. Close the window.


  4. To verify that the queue is set up for Photo Black ink, open an application such as Adobe Photoshop.


  5. Click File, then Page Setup or Print with Preview.


  6. Select Stylus Photo 2200 Photo Black.


  7. Select the paper size you’re using and click OK.


  8. Click File and then Print.


  9. Make sure the correct printer is selected, then click the down arrow next to Copies & Pages.


  10. Click Printer Settings. The following papers should be listed under Media Types:


    • Plain Paper
    • Premium Luster Photo Paper
    • Premium Semigloss Photo Paper
    • Premium Glossy Photo Paper
    • Enhanced Matte Paper
    • Velvet Fine Art Paper
    • Watercolor Paper - Radiant White


  11. Click Cancel.


  12. Swap the Photo Black ink cartridge for the Matte Black ink cartridge. (See Removing and Installing Ink Cartridges for more information.)


  13. To create the Photo Matte Black queue, open the Printer Setup Utility again, then click the  Info button and change the printer name to Stylus Photo 2200 Matte Black.


  14. Click Apply Changes and close the Printer Setup Utility.


  15. Repeat steps 4 through 11 to verify the queue is set up for Matte Black ink. (In step 6, select Stylus Photo 2200 Matte Black.) The following papers should be listed under Media Types:

    • Plain Paper
    • Enhanced Matte Paper
    • Velvet Fine Art Paper
    • Watercolor Paper - Radiant White


  16. Click Cancel.
