PCMCIA Modem Windows 95 Setup

If the Auto Install disk or CardWizard Pro Installation disk for PCMCIA drivers is run on Windows 95 systems when installing a PCMCIA device, ie:modem, the result is a conflict between 'real mode drivers' and Windows 95 PCMCIA drivers and failure of the device to work.


Use the following steps to correct this problem:


Make sure all programs running in the background are closed, such as virus protection, alternative desktops, etc., and is at the normal Windows 95 desktop screen with the Taskbar and Start Button displayed. Also, remove the PCMCIA device from the computer.


1. Select Start
     Run
     Type 'sysedit'
     Press the Enter key
     Confirm that the "System Configuration Editor" is displayed.


2. Close the 'autoexec.bat' by clicking on the 'X' in the upper right-hand corner of the window.


3. Confirm that the 'config.sys' is displayed.
     a. Remove any lines or statements that refer to PCMCIA device drivers,
          e.g.: device=c:\cardwiz\ssvadem.exe.
     b. Close the 'config.sys' by clicking on the 'X' in the upper right-hand  corner of the window and select 'yes' when asked if they want to save their changes.


5. Close the 'win.ini' by clicking on the 'X' in the upper right-hand corner of the window.


6. Confirm that the 'system.ini' is displayed.
     a. Confirm, or change the 'comm.drv= ' line, in the [Boot] section, to be 'comm.drv=comm.drv'.
     b. Scroll down to the [386 Enh] section, and remove any lines that start with
         device=c:\cardsoft\[filename] or device=c:\cardwiz\[filename].

27. Close the 'Control Panel'.
The modem is now set up correctly for Windows95
