Q:
What should I do if I am unable to scan?
A:
Make sure you've installed Epson Scan (and Event Manager if you are scanning from the product's control panel) on the computer you are scanning to, and connected the product to your computer or wireless network. (If the product is connected wirelessly, the green WiFi light on the front of the product should be on.) Then see Scan to Your Computer for scanning instructions.

  • If you are using Mac OS X 10.6 and want to scan from the control panel, the product must be connected to your computer with a USB cable. Scanning from the control panel produces JPEG files in Mac OS X 10.6.

If you're still unable to scan, try the following.
  • Make sure the product is turned on.

  • You cannot scan if one of the ink cartridges is expended; you may need to replace an ink cartridge.

  • Try restarting your computer.

  • Make sure Epson Scan Settings is set up correctly.

  • If you are scanning a document or photo at high resolution, a communication error may occur. If the scan did not complete, lower the resolution.

  • The scanner may not work properly if you upgraded your operating system but did not reinstall Epson Scan.

  • If the product is connected to your computer with a USB cable, make sure the USB cable is securely connected at both ends.

  • If network communication was interrupted while starting Epson Scan, exit Epson Scan and restart it after a few seconds. If Epson Scan cannot restart, turn the product off and on, and then try again. Check the Timeout Setting in Epson Scan Settings. For details, see the Epson Scan Help.

  • If you're scanning from a computer and using any TWAIN-compliant program, such as Adobe Photoshop Elements, make sure that the correct scanner is selected as the Scanner or Source setting.

  • If you're scanning from the product's control panel using one of the Scan to options (Scan to PC, Scan to PDF, Scan to Email), check for the following as well:

    • Make sure you've restarted your computer after installing Event Manager. The product cannot detect your computer until you've restarted it.

    • Make sure the computer you're scanning to isn't in sleep mode.

    • Make sure Epson Event Manager is not being blocked by your firewall or security software. To test if your firewall or security software is blocking Event Manager, try turning off your firewall and anti-virus software temporarily and then try scanning. Be sure to turn your firewall and/or anti-virus software back on after the test.

  • If the product is connected to a USB hub, make sure it’s connected to a first tier hub (the hub closest to the host computer) with an A/C adapter when more than one hub is connected to the computer.

  • Try updating the product with the latest firmware from the Drivers & Downloads page.
