Q:
My printer doesn't automatically switch between the black (photo and matte) ink cartridges. Instead, a message appears that says I need to switch the cartridges manually. What should I do?
A:
This message appears to ensure the correct print settings are selected in the printer software (which can help you avoid wasting ink). However, the ink cartridges can be switched automatically by doing the following:
  1. Select the menu > System Preferences > Print & Fax (Mac OS X 10.5/10.6) or Print & Scan (Mac OS X 10.7).


  2. Double-click your printer in the printer's list.


  3. Click on Printer Setup > Utility tab > Open Printer Utility > Monitoring Preferences.


  4. Uncheck Different Black Ink Change.
