What should I do if the message " Not enough space on the hard disk or in system memory for DIGITAL ICE(TM)..." appears in Mac OS 8.6 to 9.x?
This message indicates that EPSON Scan does not have enough memory resources reserved to operate with DIGITAL ICE turned on.

Follow these steps to assign more memory resources to EPSON Scan:

  1. Open the System Folder.

  2. Select Preferences > Twain and then click once on EPSON Scan. (Click the EPSON Scan icon only once; if you double-click it, you will launch the application.)

  3. Select File > Get Info > Memory.

  4. Increase the Preferred Size to 1280000.

With 512MB of physical RAM installed, this setting should allow the standalone EPSON Scan utility to scan a full letter size image (8.5" x 11") at 600 dpi with DIGITAL ICE on.

If the above does not work, try the following:
  • Close all other applications before launching EPSON Scan.

  • Increase the Preferred Size by 25%.

  • Reduce the scanning resolution (dpi).

  • Reduce the image size.

  • Add more physical RAM memory to your Macintosh computer.

DIGITAL ICE requires a lot of memory resources; it is highly recommended that you close all applications other then EPSON Scan when scanning. Once a scan is completed and the file is saved, you can then open it in your photo-editing software.
