How to install or replace your ink cartridge(s) when the
| The following information applies to the... | |
| Epson Stylus C60 | |
- Keep ink cartridges out of the reach of children and do not drink the ink.
- If ink gets on your hands, wash them thoroughly with soap and water. If ink gets in your eyes, flush them thoroughly with water.
| Warning: |
- Epson recommends the use of genuine Epson ink cartridges. Other products not manufactured by Epson may cause damage to your printer not covered by Epson's warranties.
- Do not refill the ink cartridges. The printer calculates the amount of ink remaining using an IC chip on the ink cartridge. Even if the cartridge is refilled, the amount of ink remaining will not be recalculated by the IC chip and the amount of ink available for use will not change.
| Caution: |
- Lower the output tray and open the printer cover.
- Make sure your printer is on. If you are installing the first ink cartridges ever to be installed in your printer, skip to step 5. If you are replacing an ink cartridge or cartridges, make sure the
power light is on (but not flashing) and then continue with step 3. - Press and hold the
ink cartridge replacement button until the print head begins to move. The print head will move to the center (the ink cartridge replacement position) and the
power light will begin to flash.

Caution: Do not move the print head by hand, as this may damage the printer. Always press the
ink replacement button to move it.
- Check the lights on your printer at this point (refer the table below) to determine which ink cartridge or cartridges you need to replace. The EPSON Status Monitor 3 (for Windows 98, 95, 2000, and NT 4.0) or the EPSON StatusMonitor (for Macintosh) may have also advised you that ink was low or out in which case you already know which cartridge you need to replace and you don't need the table below.
- For each ink cartridge you need to install, lift up the ink cartridge clamp as far as it will go (the color cartridge is shown in the example below). If you are replacing an older ink cartridge, the older cartridge will rise partly out of the cartridge holder and you can then lift the cartridge out of the printer and dispose of it properly.
- For each ink cartridge you need to install, remove the new ink cartridge from its protective bag and then remove only the yellow tape seal from the cartridge. Do not remove the blue portion of the tape seal from the top of the cartridge, do not remove the tape seal from the bottom of the cartridge and do not touch the green IC chip on the side of the cartridge.
- Align the tabs on the ink cartridge(s) so that they are resting on the tabs protruding from the base of the opened ink cartridge clamp(s). Push the clamps down until they lock firmly into place.
- When you have the tabs properly aligned, close the ink cartridge clamp(s).
- Close the printer cover.
- Press the
ink cartridge replacement button. The printer moves the print head and begins charging the ink delivery system. This process takes about one minute to complete. When the ink charging process is finished, the printer returns the print head to its home position on the far right, the
power light stops flashing and remains on, and the
error light goes out.

| Caution: | |
| When you insert an ink cartridge, make sure you align the tabs on the ink cartridge so that they are resting on top of the tabs protruding from the base of the opened ink cartridge clamp. If the ink cartridge tabs are under the ink cartridge clamp tabs, you could damage the clamp when you try to close it. |
