Control Panel Lights - Error Indicators

You can identify many common printer problems by checking the lights on your printer's control panel. If your printer stops working and the lights are on or flashing, use the following table to diagnose the problem, then follow the recommended corrective measures.

Paper Out
No paper is loaded in the printer. Load paper in the sheet feeder, then press the fontb1.gif (209 bytes) maintenance button. The printer resumes printing and the light goes out.

Paper Jam

If the error is not cleared, open the printer cover and remove the jammed paper by pulling it forward, no backward. Then reload paper in the sheet feeder and press the fontb1.gif (209 bytes) maintenance button. The printer resumes printing.

Ink Low (one or both ink cartridges)
If there are no paper feeding problems, either the black or color ink cartridge is nearly empty. Obtain a replacement black ink cartridge (T017201/T017311) or color ink cartridge (T018201/T018311).

To determine which cartridge is low, press the fonte1.gif (216 bytes) ink cartridge replacement button, and check the flash pattern of the control panel lights. If the fontb1.gif (209 bytes) error light flashes faster than the fontp.gif (922 bytes) power light, the color cartridge is low. If they flash at the same rate, the back cartridge is low.

Carriage Error
The print head carriage is obstructed by jammed paper or other foreign material and cannot return to the home position. Turn off the printer. Open the printer cover and remove any paper from the paper path by pulling the paper forward by hand. Then turn the printer back on.

If the error is not cleared, contact your dealer.

Fatal Error
The yellow tape seal has not been removed from the ink cartridge. Turn off the printer, then turn it on again. If the ink out lights come on and the print head moves left, replace the ink cartridge with a new one. If the fatal error occurs again after turning on the printer, contact your dealer.
